Hi my name is Dr. Kim Makoi, I’m a holistic
chiropractor from San Francisco and this is how you control hiccups. Hiccups are still
are a bit of a medical mystery but it’s largely agreed upon now that hiccups are usually caused
by swallowing too much air. This usually happens from either eating or drinking too fast or
sometimes being in a nervous state. So the most, one of the most common ways to cure
the hiccups or to stop the hiccups is to just calm down, take a few deep breaths and hold
your breath for about ten seconds. Some people add in different rituals sipping from a glass
of water while holding their breath or sipping from the far side of a glass of water while
holding their breath. Some people offer other rituals standing on one foot, sticking a pencil
into the glass of water all of these things are basically used to help to focus the body
and try and get the body to calm down and relax a little bit. So basically slow down
your eating, slow down your drinking and hold your breath and that is how you control hiccups.
