Taking Charge of Your Health

Hi, my name is Doctor Kim Makoi. I’m a holistic
chiropractor in San Francisco, and this is how you get rid of hiccups in ten seconds.
Hiccups, while still a bit of a medical mystery, it’s been agreed upon, fairly agreed upon
now, that it’s usually caused from swallowing too much air, or swallowing air quickly, either
by eating too fast or drinking too fast, or being in a nervous state where somebody might
be breathing a little faster than normal. So, the fastest way to get rid of hiccups
is to just stop, slow down your breathing, and, take a nice, deep breath in. Hold the
breath for about ten seconds. While you’re holding your breath, maybe, close your eyes
or try to center yourself and calm down the system. And, for most of you out there, that’ll
do it, and that’ll end the hiccups. And that’s basically how you get rid of hiccups in ten
seconds. There’s lots of strange variations on how to stop the hiccups, varying from standing
in different positions, and drinking beverages from different angles from the glass. Basically,
all of these things are aimed to do the same thing, which is to get the mind distracted
and focused on one single thing, and to try to get the body to slow down, basically. So,
if you just remember that your goal is to get the body to calm down, get the air back
into the lungs and out of the gut, then, you’ll be good.

  1. Thanks! I always tell my kids. You've got the Hiccups? PROVE IT! GO ON! HICCUP! That usually cures them too. Probably because they're concentrating like you say. LOL

  2. OMG it worked! I relaxed for like a minute with my eyes closed, slowed down breathing as you said, i took a deep breath and held it for 10 seconds and it worked!! Thank you so much!!!!

  3. Yeah, but this WORKS. Trick your body into thinking it's drowning is the best method. It decides to use it's resources for something other than hiccuping.

    1) Pour a TALL tepid glass of water.
    (2) Hold your breath…
    (4) Slowly, take 10-20 swallows of the water…while holding your breath with your nose pinched closed.
    (5) When you can't stand it any more….you'll know by that overwhelming drowning sensation — after a gasp, take a deep breath and relax.

  4. I can never do this on my own. I always have to hold my breath with the video. It only works then for some reason.

  5. Awww, you had a poster of ears on your wall, so I thought for sure you were going to suggest the ear lobe method:  Pull down right ear lobe while drinking water for 5 seconds.  It works!  I got it from another young lady who posted here on Youtube while I was going crazy with my hiccough and it stopped instantly after trying.  Many other remedies only work "sometimes", but the ear lobe + water was amazing.  Passing it on.
