Taking Charge of Your Health

It’s Sunday morning and we’re going on a rock
hunt. Ready team. Yeah! Off we go. Basically if you haven’t come across it, the
Ely rocks craze is all about decorating rocks, being creative and then hiding them
for other people to find. We are really loving it today. It’s a lot of fun. I would
really suggest getting involved so you can get really creative. I’m loving it. We’re
walking miles which is always good. It’s a healthy thing to do. You have the fun
of finding them and re-hiding them and sharing that kind of joy, that happiness of
joining in. Setting tasks to find them. All really good stuff for mental health. Like
I say, we’re out walking miles which is really healthy from that point of view.
One of my favourite things about it is that it’s a very mindful kind of experience
in that it’s all about focussing on what’s outside of you and going on right now.
What you can see, getting out there really looking, and having that kind of focus,
rather than getting lost in our thoughts. This is a thing I talk to my clients
about quite a lot. Oh found another one – Live! Live! So it’s all about being
mindful. So as well as the exercise side, there’s a creative side, there’s a fun side
to it, but more importantly from my work perspective it’s very mindful in that it gets
you out of your head and, rather than being lost which can often happen, can’t it,
we get lost in our kind of thoughts, anxiety, worry, stress and they just go round
and round in our minds. One thing I often work on with clients is getting outside
of our heads so that we pay more attention to what is going on right now, rather
than stuff were making up into the future. So from that point of view, it’s a
wonderful, mindful thing to do. I’ve got no idea whether it goes on in other areas,
got no idea if it’s going on where you live. It’s certainly taken off big time in
Ely and the surrounding area of Cambridgeshire. So I would suggest if it’s
not already there, get yourself some rocks, get creative, get hiding them, get
other people involved and go for it. It’s a lot of fun and I will speak to you soon.
