Taking Charge of Your Health

Hi there, Marc here from Today’s video is going to be an interesting
one. Why? Because I’ll be talking about ayurvedic
treatments for hair loss, that’s why 🙂 More and more people having been raving about
ayurvedic this and ayurvedic that, so I figured I might as well be covering it for you today
too 🙂 So ok… what is ayurveda or ayurvedic treatments
really? Well, Ayurveda has been known since centuries,
it has existed for about 5000 years to be exact for being a holistic system of medicine. Ayurvedic medicine is actually a system of
traditional medicine native to the Indians and is a form of alternative medicine. And Ayurveda uses a lot of plant-based medicines
and treatments. Ok – so ayurveda stresses a balance of three
elemental substances which are: No 1 – Vayu / v?ta (which is air & space –
“wind”) No.2 – pitta (which is fire & water – “bile”)
and No.3 – kapha (which is water & earth –
“phlegm”). Ayurvedic theory suggests that each human
possesses a unique combination of doshas that define that person’s temperament and characteristics. By the way – a “dosha” is is one of
three bodily humors that make up one’s constitution just as I’ve mentioned just now, which is
the vayu, pitta and kapha. So each person has a natural systems state,
or natural combination of the three elements, and should seek balance by structuring their
behavior or environment to provide more of the element(s) they lack. In a way, just like how the chinese feng shui
contains elements of earth, wind and fire, etc… consider this to be the Indian version
🙂 So what causes hair loss? From an ayurvedic stand point, increased intake
of fried, sour, spicy, salty, acidic and fermented foods, as well as excessive consumption of
alcohol, meats, smoking, tea and coffee, aggravate the Pitta in the body. This Pitta accumulates in the skin of the
scalp, leading to hair falling out and graying prematurely. Factors like excessive anger and stress are
also responsible. Again from an ayurvedic point of view, hair
is a byproduct of bone formation and the tissue responsible for building bones is also responsible
for the growth of hair. Early hair loss is related to body type and
the balance of the mind-body constitution (doshas). And people who have too much of Pitta in their
body are likely to lose their hair early in life, or have prematurely thin or gray hair. And this excess Pitta in the sebaceous gland,
at the root of the hair can lead to hair loss. So an Ayurvedic treatment of hair loss is
done by neutralizing the Pitta through a “rejuvenating” diet and lifestyle regime, along with medication. A combination of diet, herbs, oil massage,
meditation, aromatherapy, breathing and yoga can be beneficial in addressing the problem
of hair loss and premature graying of hair. When it comes to diet… – Cut down on fiery, fire-y pitta foods like
fried foods – anything that is fried, oily, spicy. Coffee and tea are also a no-nos. – Make sure your daily diet contains of a
lot of fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, and vegetable juice prepared from lettuce,
carrot, capsicum, and alfalfa – Cut off anything that is “chemical-based”
for your hair if possible – replace them with herbal and natural based hair products – Cut off or try to minimize intake of refined
foods, refined sugar, junk food, alcoholic and carbonated drinks – Stop smoking
and stop drinking. As for home remedy herbs to take: 1 – Jatamansi – Another name for it is Muskroot
or the Indian Spikenard. It has the power to remove blood impurities
as well give skin a glowing complexion. You can either consume it in the form of capsule
or applying it directly on your scalp. 2 – Bhringraj- Also known as the king of Herbs: It is known as the king of herbs in ayurvada
for hair because it has the properties to enhance hair growth. All you need to do is make a paste out of
the leaves and apply it on the scalp for some time before washing it off. 3- Amla – Amla helps in indigestion and
purifies the blood. It is also rich in Vitamin C, which solves
many hair problems from within. Amla is also known by any as the “Indian
gooseberry” – it is packed and rich in Vitamin C therefore is loaded with antioxidants 4 – Hot Oil Massage with Ayurveda Oils: A hot oil massage using either coconut, almond
or brahmi oil helps improve circulation and rejuvenates your hair follicles, which in
turn leads to better blood circulation to the roots. You can expect good results in the form of
less hair fall and quick hair growth within a span of 6 months 5 – Neem: This is a natural remedy against
dandruff and lice and also has blood purifying abilities. You can use this in powdered form with coconut
oil to massage the scalp. 6- Reetha: These are natural soap nuts that
are used for cleaning hair without stripping off the natural oils. 7- Methi – Methi is a commonly used herb in
our households, also considered to be an excellent remedy for hair growth. 8 – Banyan Tree: For this – all you have
to do is to take a small part of the root of Banyan tree and mix it with lemon juice
and apply it to your hair. This video is getting a bit too long so I
