Taking Charge of Your Health


We don’t ordinarily think much about our
digestion unless it’s giving us a problem. Yet the
natural system of medicine, Ayurveda, from ancient India tells us that not only is
the absence of symptoms important in our digestive tract — but good digestion is
key for our energy, our complexion, and even to live a long life. So I want to
talk to you about how we can improve our digestion and particularly if you’re
suffering from gas, bloating, or Irritable Bowel Syndrome — some very practical
things you can do, naturally, to help that. In Ayurveda, we address two fundamental
causes: one is the nervous system. Did you know that you have over a hundred million neurons in your gut? Yes this is called the enteric or intestinal nervous
system. And it’s very connected to our brain to our thoughts to our emotions. So
it follows that if we’re trying to be digesting a meal we’re trying to eat and
digest that if we’re stressed out that may not be going on so well. So main meal at noon and try to eat in relaxed way put aside
the book have conversations that are only enjoyable don’t address problems in
the middle of the meal. And don’t eat at your desk on your cell phone while
you’re texting at the same time. So, really try to calm down it’s your
parasympathetic nervous system that conducts digestion so when you’re
relaxed all your acids and all your enzymes work better. Temperature, heat,
stimulates transformation it stimulates chemical reactions and digestion is
chemistry. So what do you think happens when we as a
nation drink ice water with just about every meal? We’re sabotaging our
digestion! We’re putting the fire out and that has consequences. That inhibits the
digestion of the food. And the food breaking it down fully to the simplest
molecules of fat, sugar, and protein is essential to delivering the needed
nutrients to ourselves to our cells in ourselves. And also if we don’t break
those things down properly they don’t always just go out with the
stool they actually can get absorbed particularly if one has increased
intestinal permeability which is also called Leaky Gut Syndrome. When we absorb food molecules that are not fully broken down to the simplest nutrients those get
absorbed into our bloodstream they stress our liver they go through there
first and they can get stuck in the fine channels between cells are within cells
and that adds to what aging specialists call cellular debris. And can incite
inflammation in our joints and our skin and our sinuses in our chest. In fact, Ayurveda says that the stomach is the source of asthma. Therefore we want to
enhance our digestion for the health of our whole body and remember the better
we digest the longer we live, according to Ayurveda. So let me give you a couple
other tips… Right away pass up cold water ask the waitress for some hot
water with lemon — doesn’t sound too unusual. Here’s another tip if you
have digestive problems, tend to have gas or bloating, sip the little boiled hot
water — maybe put some in a thermos before you leave for work and drink about a
quarter cup of that every half hour, hour or so during the day. This has an amazing
effect to help peristalsis. Research has actually shown that
hot water stays in the intestines longer and promotes the downward flow. So drink a little hot water, avoid the cold drinks. And another tip, avoid raw vegetables.
This is the second tip — we want to not only calm our nervous system to enhance
digestion but we want to enhance digestion through warm drinks and
through eating food that’s warm, that’s already partially broken down. Rough, raw
foods like a big salad for lunch absolutely can promote gas and bloating
in somebody prone to that condition. Just a little knowledge of how we can
support our digestive tract, can prevent a lot of drugs, a lot of discomfort, and
perhaps even help you live longer.

  1. Shes right I am believer in the LORD JESUS CHRIST BUT I DO BELIEVE SHES RIGHT. ABOUT HEALTH SHE HAS NO HEALTH ISSUES. AND PROBLY WONT CLASSY LADY AS WELL. MY QUESTION TO HER WOULD BE WITH ALL DO RESPECT DO U KNOW THE LORD JESUS. HE CLAIMED TO BE THE ONLY WAY TO A HOLY FATHER. HE SAID I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH THE LIFE NO MAN COMTH TO THE FATHER BUT THROUGH ME.
