The first stroke is what I call the flowing
stroke. And so for flowing, its long strokes using
both hands; it could be hand over hand. And this helps to just start to move the limb,
and to increase circulation in the surface of the skin, and, of course, begin to warm
the tissues so that the skin can receive the medicinal oil. Second stroke is squeezing. And for squeezing, it has the same effects
as rubbing, in that I’m increasing circulation through the strokes; by working on the surface
of the skin to be able to receive the oil through the skin for nourishment, and for
detoxification. Squeezing strokes is like a hand over hand,
where you’re squeezing the muscle, like this. Third stroke is rubbing. Rubbing is common to remove stagnation, and
again, to support oil in getting into the body. And the rubbing is kind of fast. And the last stroke is tapping. And tapping is done to prepare the body for
receiving massage. Usually tapping would be, actually, in at
the beginning. Another tapping technique is tapping on the
