Taking Charge of Your Health

>>So in the recent edition of
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, Dr. Rodeo and I published a review article
which extensively analyzed the literature that is currently available looking at the
role of biological agents in the treatment of common shoulder pathologies so
shoulder arthritis, rotator cuff tears, subacromial impingements and just kind of
looking at a variety of cell-based therapies, whether it’s platelet-rich plasma,
bone marrow aspirate concentrate or other stem cell formulations and just
really analyzing the literature that supports or doesn’t support the role
of these agents currently in the treatment of shoulder pathology. And what we found was that there’s a lot of
literature that investigates these agents, and there’s a lot of great
promise in that literature. But there is still lacking a lot of
clinical data to support their regular use. So at this time while it’s a very promising
field and has a lot of great potential, we still need a lot of good solid clinical
data to really back up their clinical use.
