hypnosis is very simple in all honesty it’s
just a particular state of mind not dissimilar to daydreaming that allows the
automatic processes of the brain to learn things faster. Every athlete or professional sports person uses this
state of mind It’s sometimes referred to as ‘The Zone’ or being in flow state, in order to
relax their thoughts so that they can concentrate on their
performance. To a certain degree using hypnosis doesn’t have any
limits whatever it is you want to achieve
in life hypnosis can make it easier and this
isn’t just about behaviour and thought patterns we have to remember that everything that
the body does is processed by the brain and if you can learn to control what your
brain is doing then the sky’s the limit the most successful things we can do
with hypnosis though is probably learning to overcome anxiety break bad habits that sort of thing but even issues like irritable bowel
syndrome and bladder control can have amazing success Well there are 2 processes that run in the brain
conscious thoughts and unconscious thoughts The conscious thoughts are the ones that
we’re always aware of like “Ooh! Do I need any milk?” “Oh, I forgot to pay the gas bill”
Thoughts at the same time as that though there are the unconscious things going on
too we don’t have to consciously think about
breathing or blinking if we did life would be very hard so we’ve
evolved over hundreds of thousands of years and developed the ability to do things
without thinking about them and those are the unconscious thoughts firstly the things we were born knowing how to do such as breathing and also the things that we have learned
how to do such as walking, talking, driving, smoking due to repetition what was once a conscious process that
required a lot of effort becomes an unconscious process in order to make life easier unfortunately if what we’ve repeated is
something we don’t want to do any more it can be very hard to get the
unconscious processes of the brain to let go of what it feels is an instinct
that we’re born with and that’s where hypnosis comes in hypnosis gives the client easier access
to that part of the brain and so by imagining something in
hypnosis it has the same effect as having done it for real a hundred times hence
why we have such success with issues like smoking and nail biting as well as public speaking and panic attacks we can retrain that automatic functioning of
the brain into reacting as if the old behaviour was from years ago well, in a way yes but probably not
in the way that the you’re thinking it isn’t the hypnotist that takes control it’s the
client The client learns how to take more
control over what their mind is doing so i guess it could be described as better mind control Ah, stage hypnosis relies on the fact
that in an audience of a hundred people there’ll be half a dozen that love being
the centre of attention i’m afraid we can’t really make somebody
think they’re a chicken, that’s all an act Hypnosis itself doesn’t actually feel
like anything remember natural hypnosis occurs during our daily lives too watching television induces a very
deep state of hypnosis how many times have you been speaking to
somebody and they’ve been engrossed in something and
they’ve not heard what you’ve said even though you’re only two feet away from them but in a lot of cases hypnosis can
be quite relaxing it doesn’t have to but it often
accompanies a good state of physical relaxation and THAT can feel like something a pleasant heaviness or a floaty sort of
lightness but at the same time being totally aware
of what’s going on around you and in complete control typically each hypnotherapy session is
between an hour and an hour and a half and most issues need around four sessions
to make permanent although clients often notice very big
changes in the problem after just their initial session of course the more severe the problem the longer it can take to sort out which is
why nipping it in the bud is a good idea simpler issues like smoking though are
usually just one extra long session with smoking there is often such huge
motivation that no more is required and also the behaviour is never
repeated and given the chance to start again and so it lasts for life
