Taking Charge of Your Health

Hi guys. Dr. Berg here. In this short video, we’re going to talk about
non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. So many people have a fatty liver and it’s
not really coming from drinking too much alcohol. There’s other reasons for that. The main reason is insulin resistance. I’m going to explain that. If you haven’t seen the other videos, I’ll
put some links down below. But this is very important. See, insulin is a hormone that helps regulate
blood sugars. A lot of people associate it with diabetes,
but insulin is the hormone that if, even in a small amount, it converts food, especially
carbohydrates, to cholesterol and fat. It really loads up that liver with fat. So in the presence of a little too much insulin,
you’re going to get a fatty liver. It may not even show up as a weight problem
at first, but it will probably show up in the mid section as far as a fatty gut. This is just my opinion, I think because I’ve
tested it so many times, I’ve sent people to the radiologist to get ultrasounds on their
liver. If you take someone with a gut, they have
a fatty liver. A lot of times, when the liver fills up with
fat, it spills over into the gut and you have this roll around the top section or you have
this protruded belly, which is a whole other thing. Here’s what happens. The problem with this fatty liver is that
you don’t really have any symptoms for a long time. The liver has to be almost completely destroyed,
like 90%, before it even shows up on blood test. So you don’t even know you have it and it
doesn’t create any problem until later in life when you’re surprised. I’m just bringing your awareness up. Because what’s happening at the cellular level
is turning into cirrhosis, that scar tissue. The liver’s becoming like fibrotic and so
it’s going to lose function over time. It might show up in arthritis and joint problems
and fatigue, but it might not at first. The point is that you need just to be aware
of this is a serious problem down the road. So, you’ve got the cirrhosis, this liver roll,
and what’s happening is the body is releasing insulin. Insulin resistance is when the insulin is
no longer being accepted like it should in the liver. So the liver is blocking it, it’s resisting
it. The signal goes back to the pancreas and says,
“Hey, it’s being blocked, it’s not going in. I can’t hear you.” So then the pancreas starts producing more
including because the return message is the feedback is not connecting. It’s kind of like talking to your child telling
them to take out the garbage, they’re not listening. You’re going to increase the volume, start
shouting at them. That’s what’s happening right here. We have this five to seven times more insulin
pumped up by the pancreas than normal people. What’s going to happen is it’s going to create
a huge problem with the liver. It’s going to start getting fattier and fattier
and fattier. I remember this in my patient. This one guy came in. He had 95% of his liver was completely filled
with fat. I remember as I’m looking at his abdomen was
all distended and sticking out and he was doing ice cream every single night. I know you’re not doing that. You probably know people who do that, but
if you’ve been watching my videos, your diet’s probably absolutely perfect right now. Here’s some solutions to correct this. First of all, you have to know the liver is
one of the only organs that can take a real big beating and regenerate 100%. Liver tissue can come back. That’s the good news. The bad news is it takes a big of time. It could take up to three years of eating
healthy to restore your liver. You can’t just do it for two weeks. Now, one of the best remedies that dissolves
fat is choline and you can buy this from the health food store, choline. It’s considered a type of B vitamin, but it’s
really lipotrophic, which helps dissolves fat in the liver. Probably whatever it’s recommending I would
triple the dosage. Start taking that on a regular basis. Again, I don’t want you to get the impression
that it’s just taking a pill to fix your liver. You have to fix your whole lifestyle. You have to fix your eating. You have to take a whole body approach because
it’s not going to work just to take a pill and not change your ways. Cruciferous vegetables are the other thing
that you need to start consuming, because that will also help fat out the liver. If you want something to enhance it, you can
do something like this. This is the organic cruciferous concentrate
and you take this. You would probably take nine to 12 of these
a day if you have a fatty liver to help support the liver to help clean it up. So that’s another thing you can do to enhance
your diet. You cannot fix this without actually eating
tremendous amounts of vegetables. If you don’t like vegetables, you’re going
to have to start eating them somehow. Maybe in a shake or something. It’s almost impossible to fix this condition
if you don’t consume vegetables. These other things are just enhancements. They’re not the cure. The other thing is you don’t want to consume
any sugar, because the sugar activates the insulin. We want to avoid the sugar, the hidden sugars. Add more vegetables. Choline is a really good one. Cruciferous is another one. Again, it’s not as easy as doing these. There’s other complications. You have individual specific problems. If you really are serious about getting healthy,
you maybe want to consider signing up for my membership site. In that site, you have me to guide you. It is do it yourself, but you can always ask
me a personal question. It’s probably the most cost effective way
to get help, because I have over 200 lessons that you would learn from. I put a link down below so you can check it
out. You’ve got a month to test it out to see if
you like it or you can get a refund. It’s a great program because you get all the
details of what to eat, what not to eat, what to do as far as techniques, remedies, things
like that. Then, you can ask questions and have me as
your guide. This is a really good thing to take the holistic
approach and to give you the knowledge, so you’re not at the effect of these conditions
just because you’re missing some information. I like to give you the whole scoop, help you
understand it. Go ahead and apply some of these tips right
here and I hope this educated a little bit. Your next step is to get started.

  1. Isn't calve's liver rich in Choline (no pun intended)? I assume eating liver has a number of negative reasons not to be consumed including dietary cholesterol and purines. Thanks Doc for the video.

  2. I want to sign up for the membership program and was wondering if I could be billed on a specific day of the month or is it billed every month on the same date you purchase? Thank you

  9. Milk tisel. Have the tablets for 2-3 month's. No fatty liver eny more. Tamarunde good for liver. Receptors block by parasites. Cheers

  10. I understand the example put out here in terms of what the pancreas does when the liver becomes insulin resistant but what causes the liver to become insulin resistant in the first place?

  11. HI dr Eric I have stage four liver disease I was diagnosed with my liver disease in 2015 and my GP found out I have insulin resistance in 2016 but I'm a vegetarian but I watch what I eat I look at labels

  12. please can someone help me ,how can i be able to contact this doctor,im really moved through his taught and lot of questions to ask ,please can someone help me out

  13. Omg my son with autism was diagnosed with fatty liver at 17 and his pcp did nit help what so ever, he eas just baffled at the ultrasound on what caused it. And he told me that alternative medicine does nit work. Well have left that pcp founf a temporary new one. But health insurance is another problem. Thanks dr. Berg. We are doing what you suggested gradually

  14. Just got diagnosed for a fatty liver. I’m an athlete, I literally have nutrition down and I never drink. I’m so lost on how I got it.

  15. Refined sugar and white starch is the issue here. American kids eat cereal full of sugar, starch, sugar first thing in the morning. Mack and cheese and fried foods and when they are older they nothing but issues later in in life. We need healthy starch!

  16. What if you eat healthy, exercise, and eat lots of fresh veggies and still have a fatty liver with no spleen?

  17. that's not true, i have fibrosis of the liver and it showed up in a blood test which isnt nearly as bad as cirosis

  18. Thanks for your great video! I have just been diagnosed with FattyLiver…Thank God I went for routine blood work. My ALT was 37 , a normal range for LabCorp is 5 to 32. This makes me feel better. Again thanks! 🙂

  19. Recently I had my blood work results and my doctor had told me that my liver is a little high…
What does he actually meant by that?

He only suggested I take fish oil and cut out starchy foods and fried foods.

  20. I have juandice from 3 Months with High Bilirubin 25mg/dl And ALT 58, what cant treatment or diet you suggest me please My age 21

  21. Wow, thank you so much for the helpful content. I was informed that I have mild liver steatosis about three months ago and was deeply confused since I pretty much never consume alcohol. The idea that it is also linked to insulin resistance makes a lot of sense. Hope I can bare fruit in my attempts at reversing this. Thanks again.

  22. What do you do if you have fatty liver as well as hypothyroidism. Do you still want to consume cruciferous vegetable?

  23. I went through peer pressure and other abuse in high school with drinking alcohol. It continued into college. I had a fatty liver. I entered a GNC body competition via the internet as a motivation factor not just because of the prize of money either. It's on my Instagram: matthew.soroko I was never coached on weight management until I set goals for myself.

  24. I have a hereditary liver condition. I'm taking medication as prescribed and eating lots of green and other veggies. I have developed a muffin top after pregnancy. My liver function blood tests are very good and my sugar tests are absolutely normal. My aunt also had the same liver condition and now was diagnosed with cancer. What are my chances?

  25. I had that, I cured it and I explain that on my channel. Insulin is not the cause, the cause is dysfunction of the organism caused by mainly by a clogged colon, clogged circulatory system and to cure that you need to apply rejuvenating nutrition which I developped in 2004-2007 while curing my cirrhosis. Basically, no wheat, no sugar, no dairy product, no GMO, pure water and lots of rest. It took 3 years to get my liver back on track, another 2 years to strenghen it. Radish is probably the best food to kick fat out of the liver and you are going to have lots of gazs from the bottom to the top!

  26. Dr Caldwell Essselstyn and Dr John McDougall author of the Starch Solution would disagree.. Also human evolution would disagree too.. Why is it we're the only primates to inhabit every corner of the globe while other primates are confined to the tropics??? Because they live where their food is found… Other primates evolved to eat a fruit based diet containing simple sugars found in the tropics.. Humans evolved and spread throughout the world eating more complexed sugars found in root vegetables tubers and grains.. In other words carbohydrates/starches.. Every single ancient civilisations basic diet was carbohydrates/starches with very little meat.. Proven countless times by science.. Given we have evolved to eat carbohydrates/starches how can this man seriously advocate not eating them??? I think there are flaws in his thinking.. Something he has not considered…
I think he would be better off looking at the excessive amount of meat, dairy, salt, refined sugars, process food and chemicals in our diet.. Lets not forget cardiovascular disease was virtually non-existent in cultures where carbohydrates were their principle diet.. Cardiovascular disease is a western phenomenon which increases in those countries who adopt a western diet…

  27. hey i got a question
can i still eat potatoes and white rice? its the staple food of my diet

what i am doing is reducing the fat in my diet by cooking with less oil

  28. So im afraid I have cirrohisis due to pain I have been feeling and 9-10 years of pretty heavy alcohol consumption. So far the blood tests and the ultrasound show no problem. However I feel some pain and there must be an issue. Is a liver bioposy the next thing I must do? thanks

  29. Drastically reduce your animal based foods good complex carbs are not bad for you. Also saturated fats is what initially causes you to have diabetes, then once you're diagnosed with it any glucose after that is like adding fuel to the fire. Reduce your saturated/Bad fats and your body will slowly change for the better.

  30. I have fatty liver , type 2 diabetics and arteriosclerosis in my legs ( because of diabetes) and high cholesterol level. Can I take Vit K2 and D3 and what about eating fat like good quality butter, bacon etc when I want to clean my liver? I am taking Cholin .

  31. I have NASH with fibrosis. Early stage. I'm on Metformin which has helped. I don't eat any sugar but fruit, which I will stop after summer. I eat meat and bitter greens. I don't take supplements.

  32. Fat = Collagen?
    Sugar and protein.
    With propylene glycol in it?
They use it in creams and icing….and whipped toppings.
    To keep it from freezing.

    Its on Wikipedia.
Ethanol….ether….esterol. carbonized distilled oils…from sugar? Oxidated and ran thru caustic soda ash?
Put in icing ….creams….sugars…..and whipped toppings….frozen beverages that might freeze?
Mixed with hormones and cooked proteins from animals starving to death and placed in traumatic environments so u can sit there and stuff your fat face and watch porn.
    Cheap…..lazy…..slob.

  33. Please please would you consider doing a video on the protruding stomach which you dismissed at the start of this video. Its so upsetting: I have been a perfect diet now but even after a year despite losing weight my stomach is still distended and it's so exhausting and awful to live with. There is NO Information out there ANYWHERE about how to get the stomach to go down. I will look out for an answer to this comment . Will it take 3 years for the stomach to Begin to flatten again too? Will it ever? Thanks . Helene from Denmark

  34. It's taken 3+ yes for drs to figure out what was going on with me but even after being diagnosed they've been entirely cavaliar about it. Oh just eat better…blah blah. I told them I thought it was a sugar issue and gave them reasons. Again, cavaliar when everything I've read online says you should take it seriously.

  35. I was today I have non alcoholic moderate fatty liver. I do not have diabetes, no triglycerides, and always eat healthy food since I was a child because I had rheumatic fever. But… I am overweight since a child n battle with my weight. I love all the foods you said and avoid fats. My dad also had fatty liver but are chocolate by the kilos n ice cream but no alcohol. I used to tell him off for it. Also being a carer all my life I couldn't go out n exercise n I am still a carer as I have no siblings to share care of my dad now. I wonder if lack of exercise or could a virus when I was young have caused it. I had painful liver since I was 21 n now I'm 54. Weird. I will try the choline n definitely go to war with my weight. I already have lost 25kgs. Oh and liver function on blood tests normal. I'm confused. Ultrasound said I did n I have pain.

  36. Yes Im non – alcoholic fatty liver .. I didnt drink alcohol or smoke . but before I ate chips at night and eating rice 3 times a day , I ate french fries & burger .

  37. I had NAFLD. Changed my diet to a whole food plant based diet and the disease disappeared within a month. Animal products never again!
Damn, why have I taken so long do learn about the benefits of this diet

  38. Dr. Eric, another one Good video, kindly have an video for Fatty liver / Insuline resistance and weight loss EXERCISES

  39. You recommend choline but there are different types…what type exactly are you recommending? Yes. I was just diagnosed with a fatty liver and I have PCOS–which is sometimes referred to as a "pre-diabetes" because of the insulin issue with PCOS. I am only 113lbs, 5'3 but I spent the first 27 years of my life eating a high sugar diet; I am now 36 but I guess I still eat too much sugar even though I am not eating candies, cookies, or actual sweets. I am a allergic to wheat and completely intolerant to gluten, and sensitive to dairy. I also have to stay away from soy. But upon finding this issue out, I have had blood tests and my iron saturation has been high as well as my bilirubin and I have had orange-ish / browning of my skin that I never knew why. My chloride and sodium were also low indicating kidney issues –perhaps due to my fatty liver?

  40. I try to click on the link for the cruciferous vegetables six or seven times and it keeps giving me some spam

  41. I love Dr Berg, his videos and following his advice on fatty liver saved my life. I started massaging my liver with a soft tennis ball because anything else hurt too much and massage all the way around my rib cage on both sides wherever its tender, then added a small nerf football using the pointed ends to massage tender spots have since added a regular size football that I lay on and roll It over the tender spots, it has made a huge difference in my health I am coming back to life. Doing that and following his other advice I am feeling better all the time, thank you so much Dr Berg.

  42. I used to slaughter sheep for a job. only 1/3 of the sheep have prestine clean livers, the rest have some type of damage on them including the god forsaken ugly liver flukes. The fat ones always have fat around their liver and around their stomach and intestines. The really fat ones also have fat around their heart. some of the fat is 3 and 4 sometimes 6 inches thick.

  43. A random group playing 'Clue':
    Player 1:
"It was Professor PLum, in the study, with a candlestick!"
    Player 2:
"It was Colonel Mustard, in the library, with a wrench!"
    Dr. Berg:
    "It was INSULIN!!"

  44. NAFLD is a serious illness for which we must try the utmost to treat / cure it. I’ve had NAFLD for ~ 10 years, and I managed to reverse it … from moderate severity (ultra sound report) to normalcy (FibroScan report shows fat infiltration < 5%) in ~ 2 months (that’s right 2m) with great fortune on my side and with thanks.
I’ve succeeded with a diet of very low-carb / some fat / massive green veges / zero rice-pasta-cereal-sugar-softDrink-fruitJuice / extremely low fructose from fruits / zero alcohol / & I never smoke. I take no supplements, no medicines for fatty liver for there’s none.
Lesson 1. So it proves NAFLD is reversible by dietary intervention alone and in ~ 2 months only.
I was diagnosed in 2010, GP (Dr Silly-Billy) said it was a structural problem (a cop-out answer) and I (Silly-Billy 2) was too scared / frightened to look into it, and between us nothing was done since then. Until early this year, I got off my bum, when my liver / cholesterol blood test results worsened. And still the GP wasn’t going to check for fatty liver. But I read and learned and insisted on checking for fatty liver.
Lesson 2. We must take control of own health, don’t ever rely on doctors.
My GP is also a NAFLD sufferer, and poor doctor got cirrhosis with a stiffness score of 30 (or F4) and his condition is irreversible.
Lesson 3. Some 10% I think of NAFLD patients advance to scarring and cirrhosis where they’d need a liver transplant for a cure. So please don’t anyone take fatty liver disease lightly. You could be that unlucky 10% !
So why I write this – I want readers to live happily with a healthy liver ….. all the very best !

  45. Just found out I have this…I'm 140ish 5'6, not over weight. I do have symptoms of low blood sugar yet glucose monitors show normal

  46. This information is invaluable, thank you very much! For those of you with liver troubles, one hard-boiled egg has 27% of the RDA for choline. 3 oz of beef liver is 60%. Beans, milk and broccoli also range between 10% to 15%. I personally don't care for liver but it's exceptional for liver health.

  47. Gr8 information thanks. I will try the Choline. This fatty liver has 2 go as soon as possible 🏇

  48. Thank you Dr. Berg. Would you please consider doing a video on non-hereditary hemochromatosis, what it could do and how to help. Thank you.

  49. "Don’t give me any other job. Just let me be head of the World Food Authority, and I’ll have the whole world at my feet tomorrow". …….Buckminster Fuller.

  50. Sugar I thought it's evil that gives all the problems of life but never thought it leads to health problems too
